Community Based Vocational Education Program
An opportunity for Job Shadowing and Internships
Northeast Career Planning's unique job shadowing and internship programs provide high school students around the Capital Region the opportunity to observe and learn about specific industries and careers. Students ages 14 to 21 are eligible to participate in a variety of customized career exploration programs - designed to meet each student's needs.
The Community Based Vocational Educational Program
Community Based Vocational Education (CBVE) delivers effective vocational education and training to students with disabilities. Through the CBVE approach, NCP provides services in onsite community work settings rather than conventional school environments. All CBVE activities are compliant with the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act as administered through the U.S. Department of Labor.
Summer Youth Employment Services
NCP's Summer Employment support services focus on career readiness and pre-employment training including:
- Pre-employment / job readiness training
- Employment placement
- On-on-one training
- Supportive services
- Leadership development
- Mentoring
Grants provided by the Albany and Rensselaer County Offices of Mental Health offer a wide range of employment opportunities, including summer employment, for students participating in NCP's Vocational Education programs.

Job shadowing and internships provide an opportunity to “shadow,” or interview a business professional who has specific knowledge about an occupation or career.
The Young Adult will observe the responsibilities and tasks associated with the career and have the opportunity to ask questions about the skills, talents, and level of education required for the job. Northeast Career Planning can individualize the opportunities for the young adult.
