Supported Employment
for Young Adults

Supported Employment Services
NCP provides transitional support to young adults with disabilities as they start planning the next step in transitioning from school to the adult world or work. A Rehabilitation Service Coordinator will provide the individualized support services necessary to assist the young adult to choose, find, establish and maintain a job. Working one on one with the young adult to determine job readiness, develop job search strategies, provide on site job training, support and advocacy.
Finding the Right Job
Upon referral, young adult is assigned to a Rehabilitation Service Coordinator (RSC). An individual's input, ability and needs determine the level of support during their job search which could include: career exploration, resume preparation, job development, interview skills, training and advocacy. Disability awareness training is provided to the employer. Referral and linkage to outside sources is available as well.
On the Job Training
Once employment is obtained a "Job Coach" will begin job training - suplementing any onsite training provided by the employer. Job coaches have a flexible timeline and will be engaged with the employee from the start of employment until only minimal support is needed. The role of the Job Coach can include:
-
travel training
- job site adaptations
- advocacy
-
emotional support and
-
development of work site socialization opportunities.
Extended Job Support
When it is determined an NCP Job Coach is no longer needed on a regular basis, individuals will transition into Northeast Career Planning's Extended Services program. Counselors will provide the supports needed to ensure job longevity including onsite visits to both the individual and employer.
