A BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL: A mutually beneficial partnership.

At Northeast Career Planning our BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL has a unique and fitting logo: The BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL: Shaping your workforce of tomorrow...giving to your community. We feel that this simple statement is a fitting description of our newly formed BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL.

Our BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL combines two concepts: a task force combined with a think tank. That is, a BAC member is shaping a workforce by giving suggestions on training and job readiness while also acting as advocates for the population we serve. Most important, the BAC can hire any applicants we have who are in search of a job. The "think tank", also allows us to tap into the business and industry leaders who have the knowledge expertise and experience that our consumers can benefit from. The task force allows us to call upon our BAC members to help realize new opportunities in our community.

What can a BAC do for you:

  • Act as an extension of your recruitment team, giving you access to qualified applicants for a variety of positions.
  • Provide advanced networking opportunities with business and community leaders who may not have had the opportunity to work cooperatively had it not been for a BAC.
  • Provide FREE education and training on topics such as workplace diversity; an essential tool needed for good business practices and workforce development.
  • Provide businesses with an direct and traceable community outreach avenue. The BAC recognizes its members thru media, and encourages staff to patronize these businesses.
  • Act as a community resource and referral agent if a personnel manger needs assistance with staff concerns.
  • Serve as a testimonial of your community service; writing support letters, speaking at board meetings writing letters for expansion purposes.
  • Provide free diversity training to staff at meetings and in services provided at your place of business.
  • Consult on accommodation issues with the ADA.
  • Much of what a business can provide to NCP is at no cost to the employer! Even if a company is not hiring, you can enhance the lives of a person with a disability who is looking for employment.

What you can do for a BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL:

  • Review resumes and give your critique
  • Act as a advocate for people with disabilities in your networking circles.
  • Allow for shadowing opportunities at your workplace.
  • Give your feedback on training classes and help better prepare the job seekers.
  • Hire a person with a disability.
  • Bring in new members.
  • Act as a reference to businesses who are new to hiring people with disabilities.
  • Host a BAC meeting.
  • Underwrite the cost of an event: bringing in a speaker to educate the community.
  • Volunteer to be a mock interviewer.
  • Be a mentor to a job seeker who is looking for a job, giving encouragement, job leads and advise.
  • Open your company training to a job seeker.
  • Allow consumers to tour your place of business.
  • Host a staff meeting for employment specialist to talk about employment opportunities at your place of business.
