Supported Education Program
Program description
Supported education is a community mental health program which utilizes the psychiatric rehabilitation model to assist individuals with choosing, getting and keeping educational goals. Through the use of individual support, the (potential) student will identify his/her educational needs in an effort to formulate a specific school goal. A plan will then be developed focusing on time frames and methods for achieving the goal. The outcome of this process is success and satisfaction in the individual's chosen educational setting.
Program Services
- Coordination of services on campus
- Direct on-campus assistance
- Referrals to resources on and off campus
- Financial assistance advisement and advocacy
- Coordination of services with mental health providers
- On-going support
- Public relations
- Crisis resolution on campus
Eligibility
- CSS eligible
- Has a DSM IV diagnosis
- Medical and psychiatric stability sufficient to participate in an academic program
- Currently receiving mental health services
- Must be a resident of Albany or Rensselaer county
